August 10, 2013 in Amsterdam Blog

The Parade Amsterdam is a theatre festival and takes place every year in the summer. This year it will start on the 9th of August and end on the 25th of August. The location of the Parade is the Martin Luther King Park, located at the Amstel river in Amsterdam’s Southside. You can take tram 25 at Central Station and get out at the last stop.

The Parade is something special. The terrain looks somewhat like a fair. Large colorful tents and an old school carousel give the parade a festive atmosphere. Inside the tents there are theatre shows which can take from 10 to 30 minutes. The Parade Amsterdam is famous for the high quality of theatre leaning on the absurd genre but there’s something for everbody’s taste. Do note that most of the shows are in Dutch.

Even though the theatre shows are still the core of the festival, many people also visit the Parade Amsterdam just to have a drink and a bite to eat. The atmosphere is famous even for Amsterdam standards.

During the day you can enter the terrain for free. After 4:00 PM the charge is 7.50 euro. The evenings are perfect for a visit to the terrain and visit a theatre show. Go silent disco dancing. Take a ride in the merry-go-round. Bake your own typical Dutch mini pancakes, “poffertjes”. The Parade is popular for a reason, and around 250.000 people each year visit the festival. Join the fun!
