Cheese Museum Amsterdam

5The Cheese Museum Amsterdam is a small picturesque museum dedicated to the large variety of Dutch cheese. Most famous is probably Gouda, but it’s very likely you’ve eaten Leerdammer, Maasdammer or Old Amsterdam. Obviously we are particularly proud of the last one.

In the Cheese Museum Amsterdam you can expect to see the history of quite a few famous Dutch cheeses. It is definitely not the Van Gogh or the Rijksmuseum, but still a small and very nice museum. Adding to the authentic atmosphere is the staff, who are dressed in traditional Dutch fashion.

This museum also servers as a shop, which is why the entrance fee is only € 1.

The Cheese Museum is located on the Prinsengracht. It is very close to Anne Frank house so if you are going there worth a short stop. The neighborhood is the chique part of the Jordaan with the large Westertoren (“Westerntower”) dominating the landscape. Have fun at the Cheese Museum Amsterdam!

If you are looking for a larger cheese museum or even a cheese market, within an hours drive from Amsterdam various provincial towns like Alkmaar, Edam and Hoorn all have traditional cheese markets. There are tours you can book in Amsterdam (for example on Damrak) to these markets.
